As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, we are monitoring the recommended healthcare guidelines from government and public health officials. As the State of California and Ventura County announce reopening guidelines for our industry we will continue to offer virtual and/or in-person classes that adhere to the guidelines.

Risk assessment and measures that will be taken to prevent spread of the virus.

  • Arrival and departure of the students

    • CDT students are to be dropped off and picked up for all classes and must wait outside socially distanced from one another.

    • All students must wear a face covering at all times when on premises at California Dance Theatre.

    • Any parents or visitors must wear a face covering at all times when on premises at CDT.

    • There will be clearly marked areas where customers or employees queue to maintain physical distancing, or directed to use alternative entry requirements.

    • Students under 8 years old may be accompanied by one parent. Once our younger students are medically cleared and checked into their class, parents will be asked to vacate the building.

    • All Individuals must bring a completed medical clearance form each day. We will email a blank form for students to print and complete at home or you may download the form from our website. Forms must be signed by a parent and turned in at the time of the temperature screening and before entering the studio.

    • Prior to entering the studio, we will inquire whether students have had symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell in the past 2 weeks . If a student answers ‘yes’ to any of these questions they will be asked to return home.

    • Anyone entering the building will have their temperature taken (non-touch).  If a temperature greater than 99.4 is found, that person and anyone arriving with them will be asked to return home.

    • Signage will be posted to remind everyone of health and physical distancing guidelines.

    • CDT dressing rooms will be closed. Students must arrive fully dressed and ready for their dance class.

    • The Snack Barre will be closed. Students must bring water and snacks from home.

    • At the end of class, each teacher will escort students to a designated exit doors to reunite with their parent.

    • CDT will clearly designate entrances and separate exits.

    • Classes may be held outdoors or in-studio as guidelines allow. Doors will be propped open when possible.

  • Students waiting for class to begin inside the studio

    • The lobby will be closed to the public and used only for students waiting for class. Social distancing of at least 6 feet will be identified and enforced.

  • In class procedures

    • We will use visual cues (e.g., floor markings, colored tape, or signs) to indicate where students should stand.

    • Personal face coverings are mandatory and must be supplied by the student.

    • Ballet students will utilize barre covers while at the barre. It will be students’ responsibility to take them home for cleaning and return with them each day.

    • Pilates mats will be used for any classes involving floor work. Students must provide their own mat and are required to clean and transport them from home each day.

    • Class sizes will range from 8-20 students for dancers ages 7 and up based on studio size, square footage, and ability to move 6 feet apart at all times.

    • Class sizes will range from 5-10 students for dancers ages 6 and under.

    • Student levels will be assigned to a block schedule minimizing the need for room changes.

  • Teacher/Student interaction

    • Instructors sanitize hands before each class.

    • Teachers will wear a face covering and maintain social distancing while instructing the students.

    • CDT will utilize in-person and virtual instruction as needed.

Communication with Employees

  • All employees will be trained on the details of the plan

  • There will be regular communication with employees regarding any changes in implementation or new training measures needed.

  • Employees will be educated on preventing the spread of the virus, physical distancing, the proper use of face coverings when to seek medical attention, and self-screening at home, including temperature and/or symptom checks using CDC guidelines.
